Arunachal bags 16 medals in National Youth Weightlifting

Itanagar, Nov 25: With three more gold medals clinched by lifter Takio Yana this morning, Arunachal Pradesh topped the medal tally with a total of 16 medals including six gold, seven silver and three bronze, on the final day of the seventh National Youth Weightlifting championship held at Nirjuli near here.

Yana won the gold in 58 kg (girls) category by lifting 64 kg in Snatch, 85 kg in Clean

Itanagar, Nov 24: A new national record was created on Wednesday in Snatch event under 62 kg category (boy) in the ongoing seventh Youth National Weightlifting Championships at Nirjuli near here. Achyutananda Sahoo of Orissa created a new national record by lifting 102 kg in the snatch event breaking the earlier record set during the day by Arunachalee weightlifter Hitlar Sorom Tagru, who lifted 101 kg. Arunachal Pradesh clinched three gold medals, eight silver and a bronze.....

Itanagar, Nov 22 The National weightlifting championship was inaugurated on Tuesday at Nirjuli by Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki.The seventh National Youth (Boys and Girls) and 48th Men and 24th Women Junior Championship started at a glittering function at Niyakum Niya Hall after the march past by representatives of 25 participating states.Thanking Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) for holding the mega-event in the state, Tuki said, "It would herald a new era for sports sector in the state despite inadequate infrastructure.""Weightlifters of Arunachal Pradesh.....

Itanagar, Nov 4: Arunachal Pradesh is all set to host the National Weightlifting Championship beginning from November 21, Arunachal Weightlifting Association (AWA) announced here today (Nov 4). New Delhi, Oct 15: Indian lifters signed off their campaign in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships on a high note by adding as many as nine more gold medals on the fifth and final day of the event in Cape Town.Apart from nine gold, India also bagged six silver medals yesterday, to return home with a whopping 110 medals, including 53 yellow metals, from the championships.
