Tibet student group releases video of Buddhist nun burning

Self Immolation
Beijing, Nov 22: With the Tibetans protesting on the oppression by the Chinese, a Tibetan rights group has raised the heat when they released a graphic video of a Buddhist nun supposedly setting herself on fire. This comes in the wake of the recent spate of self immolation by monks in protest against Chinese rule in Tibet and the harsh treatment of the Tibetan people.

The footage of the nun burning was obtained by Students for a Free Tibet that purportedly shows the images of 35-year-old Palden Choetso setting herself on fire. Her death was earlier reported on Nov 3 from Ganzi prefecture in Sichuan province that is mostly inhabited by Tibetans.

The video shows a woman in nun's robes standing on a street engulfed in fire.

The video also shows close to 10,000 mourners gathered at a monastery to pay their respects to the nun. They held a candlelight vigil with another 1,000 monks and nuns holding prayers inside the monastery.

As many as 11 monks, nuns, and former monks have indulged in self-immolation to register their protest against the repressive Chinese aggression in the place.
