Google Doodle is back and this time around it is celebrating the 224th birthday of Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre. The person credited as the inventor of the daguerreotype, the first successful form of photography, is also a popular French painter and physicist.
In the earlier format, a photography required hours of exposure while the technique invented by Daguerre reduced the time to 20-30 minutes. This format made use of a technique that involved exposing a silver iodide coated copper plate to light that was later fumed with mercury vapour. This was later treated with a solution of common salt that later formed a permanent image. With this format gaining popularity, many later inventions reduced the exposure time to 40 seconds by 1841.
Born on Nov 18, 1787 in Cormeilles-en-Parisis in France, Daguerre had interests in the field of architecture, theater design, and painting. He is also credited as the inventor of the diorama along with De Dion-Bouton. Daguerre died of heart attack on July 10, 1851.
