Google gives Gmail a smart makeover;gives users more control

New Look Gmail
San Francisco, Nov 2: Search engine giant Google in an effort to enhance user experience has launched a new look Gmail, its popular free email service. Google user experience designer Jason Cornwell revealed the news through a blog post that said, "We're excited to finally share Gmail's new look with you."

Jason added, "We'll be bringing these changes to everyone soon. But if you'd like to make the switch right away, we're rolling out a 'Switch to the new look' link in the bottom-right of Gmail over the next few days."

The new layout is touted to have a 'conversation view" that will make it easier for users to keep track of who said what in email trails and enhanced tools to search mailboxes. They will also act as storage bins for users.

Google advertising senior vice president Susan Wojcicki commented in his blog post, "We're committed to giving you notice and control over the ads that you see. If you don't wish to see personalized ads, the choice is yours." This move will help users to have more control on ad pitches that are personalized by them.

Wojcicki added, "Our advertising system is designed to show the right ad to the right person at the right time. Over the coming weeks, we're making improvements to provide greater transparency and choice regarding the ads you see on Google search and Gmail." The new feature will have information such as location and search history that will decide on what ads people find beneficial.
