Greater Noida, Oct 28: Watching Formula One car drivers across the world burning their tyres at the newly built Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) will indeed be a fest for Indian F1 fans. Starting on Friday, Oct 28, F1 cars will take on the track with free practice sessions.
Here are a few basic and must know facts that will help one understand the fastest game as it unfolds.
The Buddh International Circuit is the first formula one racing track in India. The circuit is spread over an area of 875 acres that has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 176.91 crore. The circuit is 5.137 km long with 16 corners (7 left/9 rights), with a width of the track in between 18 meters to 20 meters, where 230 Indian race marshals and 100 from abroad will race 60 laps covering 308 km (approx).
This is touted to be one of the challenging tracks on the F1 calendar that has been designed by the famous German F1 track engineer, Hermann Tilke. Is it really challenging? Yes, said the race marshals who took their first brush with the brand new track.
Cars are predicted to average a speed of around 210 kph, hitting maximum speeds of 320 kph. This makes BCI the second-fastest racetrack on the circuit after Monza.
The Jaypee Group Circuit was later renamed as Buddh International circuit on April, 2011. The latter name was derived from the name of Budha, the deity of peace. Meanwhile, the circuit is also located in Gautam Bhudha Nagar, thus the circuit's name also make reference to the vicinity.
