Light an online Diwali diya at your loved ones home

A Tray of Earthen Diwali Lamp
New Delhi, Oct 25:A website, nrimatters.com has developed a new web application which allows people to light a virtual diya at their loved ones home to wish them a Happy Diwali. The new application has become hugely popular especially among non-resident Indians (NRIs).

According to Cania Dey, editor of nrimatters.com, the application allows people to light an online diya through Google Maps. The developed application is called Festival of Lights.

To use the application, users have to type the address of the recipient's location in the search bar to reach the destination where the user wants to place the diya. After that, users should zoom into the exact location to place the virtual diya.

Dey attributes the fast growing popularity of the application among NRIs to not just the unique concept of lighting an online diya at the exact location, but also the joy of greeting, the nostalgia factor and homesickness among people away from home.

The online application also features a greetings section through which the users can send wishes through e-mail, e-cards or Facebook.

Meanwhile, the website have a total of 14,000 subscribed users and till now 2,235 diyas have been lit. NRIs are sending thousands of greetings through this application. The developed application is sponsored by Kotak Mahindra Bank.
