Yeddy misses maiden Metro ride; wishes to catch action on TV

BS Yeddyurappa
Bangalore, Oct 20: With the Namma Metro finally flagged off by Union Minister Kamal Nath and Karnataka CM Sadananda Gowda, the part played by former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in getting the Metro on track cannot be forgotten at this time. The jailed former CM will now have to miss the first Metro ride that he was so eagerly hoping to attend since he is in judicial custody.

Yeddyurappa is presently housed at the Parappana Agrahara central jail after he was involved in the land denotification case. Having missed the dream metro ride, he will have to watch the gala celebrations on TV that is leaving no stone unturned to rejoice the proud moment for the whole of Bangalore.

It has been reported that he sought access to a television set to watch the proceedings of the launch that many television channels are showing live on TV. Housed in a special air-conditioned cell, at the Bangalore Central Prison's Special Security Block, Yeddyurappa is believed to have requested prison authorities for a TV to watch the inaugural function.

A prison official has been quoted as saying, "We can provide it only after senior officials grant permission. But if it is not installed before the launch, he will be taken to the cell of either the former Minister S.N. Krishnaiah Setty or councillor Katta Jagadish, who already have TV."

With Yeddyurappa missing the maiden Metro ride and missing his name from being inscribed in the golden plaque of having flagged off Bangalore's moment of pride, the Namma Metro, he will have to be content sitting in the dingy jail cell to be part of the proceedings from afar.

Sources within the jail have revealed that the former CM asked to be left alone in his allotted cell. He also requested for 10 Kannada novels and two Kannada evening papers to be taken to his cell. The source claimed, "He wanted the evening papers to know what they had to say about his shifting to jail from Victoria Hospital." The media had slammed Yeddyurappa's hospital hopping exercise with members of the Opposition ridiculing him for the same.

It looks like it is Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda was destined to eat the 'Namma Metro' cake in spite of Yeddyurappa toiling hard to bake it to perfection.
