Greater Noida, Oct 18: The stage is set and the preparations have been completed for India's proud moment in Formula One history when the country's first Formula One track will be unveiled on Tuesday, Oct 18. The Buddh International Circuit will be India's first attempt to the world of the high profile and expensive Formula One races.
The mammoth project stretching in an area of 875 acres, has been built at an estimated cost of $10 billion ($215 million). The track has a length of 5.14 kilometers(3.19 miles) with a width of the track between 18 meters to 20 meters.
Named after the epitome of peace, Buddha, the Buddh International Circuit has also adapted the name on the name of the place where the circuit has been constructed, the Gautam Budh Nagar District.
The is said to be second fastest track in the Formula One calendar, with top racers predicting the fastest lap to be under 1min 27 secs and the average speeds crossing 210 kms per hour. The track has been designed by Hermann Tilke.
The circuit is part of the larger Jaypee Greens Sports City that will also house a 100,000 seat cricket stadium, 18-hole golf course, 25,000 seat hockey stadium and a sports academy. The first look of the circuit was unveiled to media persons today (Oct 18).
