New Delhi, Oct 13: Vishnu Gupta and Tejendra Pal Bagga, the two assailants who attacked Supreme Court lawyer and a member of Team Anna, Prashant Bhushan have been arrested after they surrendered themselves.
The two assaulters will be produced in the court after 2 pm today.
Prashnat Bhushan was reportedly beaten up by three people after they barged into his chamber while he was busy giving a television interview, when he was kicked and slapped by the men.
"They were saying that I have made some comments on Kashmir to which they were taking objection. I have said that a referendum should be held in Kashmir," said Bhushan.
One of the attackers was immediately arrested by the police, while the others managed to escape. The attack on Bhushan attracted public outrage and many condemned strongly as they felt it was "an attack on free speech".
P Chidambaram, Home Minister also condemned the attack and sent one of his representatives to the hospital to meet Bhushan.
According to Bhushan, the attackers claimed that they belonged to the Sri Ram Sene - a right-wing Hindu extremist group based in Mangalore.
"We hit Prashant Bhushan hard in his chamber in supreme court," read a post on Facebook in a page for the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena, claiming responsibility for the attack.
"This is not acceptable, what happened to Prashant Bhushan, the way he was attacked...to take law and order into one's own hands is wrong. I pray to God to give better sense to the sort of people who led this attack. This is not our culture," reacted Anna Hazare after he came to know of the attack on his team member.
"My son is fearless. He will always act on his conscience," said Shanti Bhushan, father of Prashant Bhushan.
"Because of that if someone thinks that Prashant Bhushan will leave his work, then they are wrong. As he is not that sort of a person. He won't leave his work because of fear," said Shanti Bhushan.
The three assaulters entered Prashant Bhushan's chamber after they claimed that they had a prior appointment with the lawyer.
