Chennai, Oct 10: A special CBI team from Delhi has started raids in former Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran's residence in Chennai. Initial reports suggest that the team was stopped from entering the premises by security guards but later obliged to the insistence of the CBI team. The team finally began raids from 7:30 AM on Monday.
Media reports revealed that an FIR was registered against Dayanidhi and Kalanidhi Maran. Apart from them, Ralph Marshall, the CEO of Astra TV that invested in Sun TV and T Anandakrishnan were also slapped with an FIR.
Maran has been under the CBI scanner for the dubious Aircel-Maxis deal where he is alleged to have arm-twisted the then Aircel chief C Sivasankaran to sell his stake in the company.
Maran's role in the massive 2G spectrum case is also being investigated. The early morning crack down by the CBI team is continuing with unverified reports suggesting that the team might also raid Dayanidhi Maran's brother, Kalanidhi Maran's residence. Both Marans were earlier questioned by the CBI for their links in the spectrum case.
More details awaited.
