Google Doodle goes oranage-y; honours the founder of Vit C

It's Google Doodle time yet again and this time the doodle appears to be an orangey-fresh and standing out with 'Google' written ornately in the home page. The occasion is the commemoration of the 118th birthday of Albert Szent-Györgyi. Györgyi is a Hungarian physiologist and is known for his discovery of the Vitamin C, which is present in abundance in oranges.

The Hungarian physiologist was responsible for understanding the components and reactions of the citric acid cycle and was lauded with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937.

Hailing from a family of scientists, Szent-Gyorgyi was born on Sept 16, 1893 at Budapest, Austro-Hungary. He was awarded the coveted Nobel prize for his discoveries in "connection with the biological combustion process with special reference to vitamin C and the catalysis of fumaric acid".

Following the second world war, Szent-Györgyi emigrated to the United States in 1947 primarily due to the flourishing of Communism in Hungary. He breathed his last in Woods Hole, Massachusetts on October 22, 1986.
