The New York Times introduces 'India Ink' website

New York, Sept 12: The New York Times has launched an English-language website called "India Ink" targeted at the growing media market in India and South Asia.

India Ink will be edited by the The New York Times in India and the International Herald Tribune (IHT) in Hong Kong, led by lead writer Heather Timmons, who has covered business in India for the daily for the last four years.

The site would offer news and analysis about Indian politics, culture, business, sports and lifestyle, providing a "distinct perspective on the news and events that matter most to Indians and those who follow news about India, both on the subcontinent and abroad".

"India is a vibrant country with a wealth of urgent news and compelling stories," said Jill Abramson, executive editor of the New York Times adding, "India Ink is an exciting expansion of The Times's global reach."

"Expanded coverage of India is a natural fit for The New York Times and its global edition, the IHT," said Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, publisher of the International Herald Tribune.

NYT sells HQ for $225 mn to clear a long-term debt

New York, Mar 10: In a shot to clear a long-term debt, the New York Times Company (NYT) sold off portion of its Manhattan Headquarters to W P Carey and two of its publicly-held, non-traded REIT affiliates for $225 million on Monday, Mar 9. A 15-year sale-leaseback has been signed between NYT and W P Carey. The transaction encompasses 21 floors, or approximately 750,000 rentable square feet, currently occupied by the Times Company.

Washington, Mar 6: President Barack Obama's most favoured pick for Surgeon General, Dr Sanjay Gupta, has withdrawn from being considered for the post.
