Man who assassinated Karzai's brother hanged in public

Ahmed Wali Karzai
Kabul, Jul 14: Afghanistan is back to its brutal way of delivering justice when the man who shot at Afghan President Hamid Karazai's brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai was hanged in public on Tuesday.

The brutal execution was carried out in full public view by a group of men who hanged the man in a public square in Kandahar and later hung the corpse against a wall for a good 20 minutes before being removed. The matter was reported in the Daily Mail.

Initial reports suggested that Ahmed was killed by his own bodyguard. But further reports revealed that the guard was from Karzai's own tribe and home town. He was working for Karzai for seven years. The funeral was attended by thousands of mourners along with the President Hamid Karzai.

The funeral was attended by government officials, tribal leaders, and others from the province. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the assassination, however, Afghan officials have not verified whether he was shot by insurgents or the attack was the result of an internal dispute. Meanwhile, the spokesman for Taliban, Zabiullah Mujahid stated that Ahmed was killed because of his close co-operation with British, US and Canadian forces in the South.

Though the punishment to culprit is somewhat criticised here, this was the traditional way of seeking justice and at the same time spreading the message in enemy camp "you dare not do it again". This was what great maratha king Shivaji had also adopted. We the Indians are stretching the "democracy" too far. Some sort of discipline is a must. Even in investigations, convictions, implementations and so on. It should not sound ridiculous if I ask can it happen in our country?
