Life in Metro: Man beaten to death, People watch in silence

Man beaten to death in Coimbatore
Coimbatore, Jul 13: 'Metro life' is a new term coined after citing the busy, hectic lives in cities where people do not even get time to take a breath. But is it acceptable that while running from one place to other, these "busy" people are losing the basic sense of humanity to save a person from beaten to death?

Scores of people watched a real time fighting as they were watching some movie when a man was beaten to death in a broad daylight in Coimbatore. Even police failed to take proper action at the right moment. The tragic incident happened a stone's throw away from the police station.

It took two days for the cops to take action against the culprits. Police arrested a gang of four persons who allegedly were drunk and attacked the victim who has been identified as Santosh. The victim was working as a painter in a bar.

The four detained people attacked Santosh and continued to hit him with stones till he died. All these brutal acts were caught in Close Circuit TV (CCTV) which was placed by the police. The four member gang has been presented before the court and was sent for judicial custody.

Now, the "busy" people should answer the cry of Santosh's wife who blamed the government and the silent viewers of her husband. "People don't have a conscience. They could have saved my husband. They and the government should answer for this," chided the widow of the deceased.

Most of the quarrels happen because of alcoholists. Why not the government stop selling liquors ? The four drunkards need to be sentenced for capital punishment.
