Dilshan case: Jaya felicitates CB-CID squad

Chennai, Jul 12: The CB-CID team that cracked the case relating to the shooting down of a 13-year-old boy Dilshan  by a retired Lt Colonel inside the army residential complex here, was today (Jul 12) felicitated by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The officers led by CB-CID ADGP R Sekar met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat here. Jayalalithaa gave away certificates commending the efforts of the officers.

CB-CID wing of the state police had on Sunday arrested former Lt.Colonel Kandawamy Ramaraj for opening fire at Dilshan when the teenager trespassed into the Army premises where he was staying.

A few serving officers had also been questioned, triggering speculation that they could be involved in the killing.

However,with police zeroing on him on the basis of its probe, the 58-year-old Ramraj, a native of Madurai, confessed to having shot Dilshan with his rifle from a balcony.

Karuna questions limiting land grabbing probe to DMK regime

Chennai, Jul 11: Expressing surprise over Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's announcement that special police cells would look into allegations of land grabbing during his regime, DMK chief M Karunanidhi today (Jul 11) said the probe should also cover pre-2006 period when AIADMK was in power. "Land grab and land fraud are wrong. However, unless action is taken against all culprits, irrespective of the time period, such measures will only be construed as targeting a few," he said in a statement here. Congress slams Jaya's volte face on Prez polls

Puducherry, July 19: Coming down heavily on the last minute volte face by AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa in the Presidential election, the Congress today said the move had exposed her true colours. Addressing a press conference here, AICC Secretary G Sudhakar Reddy said the people of the Union Territory would teach a befitting lesson to Ms Jayalalithaa, who had directed her party MPs and Legislators to vote for NDA-backed Independent Bhairon Singh.....
