Terrorism: Blast derails Guwahati-Puri express, 100 injured

Train mishap
Guwahati, Jul 11: A bomb blast on the railway track near Rangia in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district derailed six coaches of Guwahati-Puri express on Sunday, Jul 10.

At least 100 passengers, who were mostly the pilgrims for Jagannath rath yatra in Puri, were critically injured. A total of 1,000 passengers were travelling in the train.

According to sources, an explosion at Dhatkuchi between Rangia and Ghagrapar at 8:30 PM led to the derailment of the engine and the two bogies immediately behind it but they remained standing, while four other bogies capsized and fell into a three-feet water-filled ditch.

"We cannot say whether there was a blast or it was an act of sabotage. We can only state this after investigation," stated police official.

However, no terror group has taken responsibility for the blast so far. Rescue operations are being conducted with the help of Army, CRPF and the local police.
