As Ahmad and Sonu, who suffered gun-shot injuries in a shootout, were about to be operated at the government hospital in the headquarters town, power suddenly went off but even the power back-up system could not be used.

The relatives of the patients, accompanied by some locals, then ransacked the hospital, burnt two ambulances parked on the campus and damaged furniture, police said.

A section of the crowd thrashed a doctor on duty and damaged his vehicle. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police soon reached the spot with heavy reinforcements.
