Chennai, Jul 11: After 1,449 complaints of land grabbing in the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa demanded that action be taken on the same.

Criticising the DMK, Jayalalithaa said that no action was taken during the DMK's regime over the complaints that were filed against the land grabbers.

“Since July 1 the police has received over 1,449 complaints of land grabbing from the public and complaints are still pouring in," she said.

“The special cells will go into the complaints of land grabbing during the DMK regime from 2006 to 2011 and take action against those involved under various sections of law," she said.

She further said that it was difficult to keep a track on the figures because of the large number of cases in the police stations and separate wings would be set up soon to probe into the complaints.

“To probe land grab complaints and take action, separate wings will be set up in the State police headquarters and at all districts. I have ordered the police to take immediate action on such complaints," said the Chief Minister.

“The setting up of special wings would instill confidence in those who had lost their property that they would get it back," she said on the party's promise to get back all the seized lands.

"Land grabbers would be brought to justice and the properties would be returned to the original owners," she said.
