Cong stages walkout in MP Assembly over land acquisition issue

Congress party flag
Bhopal, Jul 11: Accusing the government of being insensitive regarding acquisition of tribal lands for industry in Anuppur district, the opposition Congress today (Jul 11) staged a walkout from the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

The issue was raised by Panchilal Medha and Omkar Singh Markam (both Congress) through a calling attention motion, alleging that government had acquired more than 4,300 acres of land belonging to tribals for the industry, against the rules.

As per the rules, the land belonging to tribals cannot be given to non-tribals, the MLAs said, and demanded that the lands acquired so far be returned.

They also alleged that lands were acquired without holding the meeting of the concerned panchayats, which is mandatory.

Former Minister, Bisahulal Singh (Congress) said the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, had announced that if lands belonging to rural people were acquired for industrial purposes, the state government would give a compensation of Rs five lakh, but to date nobody had got any ex-gratia in Annupur.

Choudhry Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi (Congress) demanded that till the issue of compensation was not resolved, the ongoing works of various companies in Anuppur district should be stopped.
