2253 persons killed by insurgents in 10 years in Assam

Guwahati, Jul 11: Altogether 2253 persons have been killed by insurgents during the period of 2001-2011 in Assam.

Replying to a question by Bodo Peoples' Front (BPF) legislator Kamalsing Narzary, Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, replying on behalf of the Chief Minister, who holds the home portfolio, said those killed include 1962 civilians and 291 security personnel.

Altogether 1759 insurgents and 25 civilians have been killed in encounters with security forces during the said period, he said.

Besides these, 150 civilians have lost their lives in firing by security personnel to control law and order situation, the minister added.

IED blast caused derailment of Guwahati-Puri Express: Railways

Guwahati, Jul 11: An improvised explosive device was used to trigger the blast that led to the derailment of the Guwahati-Puri Express in Kamrup district in Assam that left 100 passengers injured, officials said today (Jul 11). Railway PRO Nripendra Bhattacharya said the explosion led to the engine and eight coaches jumping the rails at around 8:30 last evening at Dhatkuchi between Rangia and Ghagrapar in the district. Four of the coaches toppled over and fell into a three feet water-filled ditch following.....

Bird flu spreads to new areas in Assam

Kamrup (Assam), Dec 6: With a fresh outbreak of bird flu in poultry being detected in Assam, authorities are prepared to start the culling of thousands of chickens.Reports say the virus has spread to the districts of Barpeta and Nalbari from Hajo in Kamrup District, where it was first reported. Samples were sent to laboratories in Bhopal and have tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza.The State Government has ordered culling operations and culling officers have already started going.....

Assam Company commences oil delivery from Amguri field

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Assam Company Ltd (ACL) has begun delivery of oil from its operated field in Amguri to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) refinery in Guwahati, Assam, about 115 km away. The oil is being sold at the same price as a basket of crude oils with similar characteristics traded in the international market, a company release here said. The oil produced from Amguri is first trucked to Oil India Ltd (OIL) facility at Moran.....
