Ex K'taka CM HD Kumarswamy kicks off fast against BJP

HD Kumaraswamy
Bangalore, Jul 9: When the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state government enraged the former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy with several allegations, the JD(S) leader commenced his indefinite fast as he had proclaimed earlier. Kumaraswamy on Saturday, Jul 9 started his fast-unto-death protest demanding CBI probe in his own family's wealth.

The BJP government had accused Kumaraswamy and his family of amassing illegal wealth to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore. The son of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy on Saturday marched to the Freedom Park in the silicon city - Bangalore.

Trying to establish the uniqueness of such protest initiated by him, Kumaraswamy said, "I am confident of passing through this trial by fire. I value my personal prestige and honour above my life."

Before starting the hunger-strike, he briefed the media and said that the fast could be one of the first of its kind in the state wherein a former chief minister had been forced to undertake such a protest demanding a CBI probe into his own family's assets.

Without failing to bruise the present chief minister of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa with corruption charges, Kumaraswamy informed, "I have already brought out documentary evidences against chief minister and his family members."

It seems that the blame-game between Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy has taken a new turn after the truth-testimony drama before god. Though Yeddyurappa called off his plan to prove his innocence before the god at the last minute, Kumaraswamy went ahead with his words and took oath before god to prove his veraciousness.
