Mumbai: Building collapses in Thane, 10 killed

Mumbai, Jul 8: The city of Mumbai, which has been lashed by heavy rains since the past two days, witnessed another mishap on Friday, Jul 8.

At least ten people were killed and many others severely injured when an under construction building collapsed in Mumbai's Thane area.

The builder and contractor have been indicted for the accident and a case under Section 304 has been registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, road and rail traffic have been disrupted over the incessant rains in Mumbai. The Met department informed that Colaba recorded 162.8 mm of rainfall and Santacruz received 116 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am on Thursday to 8.30 am Friday.

A Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson said, "Due to sudden drop in visibility of 300 mtrs all flight operations were suspended at the international airport here between 1000 to 1017 hours. But now its all normal."

Complaints of water logging were reported from areas like Vileparle, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Malad, Dharavi and other suburban areas. No incidents of house and wall collapse were reported, officials said.

Dey murder case: MCOCA slapped against eight accused

Mumbai, Jul 8: The Mumbai Police on Friday, Jul 8 invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the eight accused, arrested in connection with the assassination of Senior Investigative reporter Jyotirmoy Dey. According to police, MCOCA provisions can be applied, if two crime gang members have at least two charge sheets registered against them.Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur, who allegedly helped the shooters identify Dey is one among the 8 accused in the case. Navi Mumbai to get new hawking policy, says Min Ganesh Naik

Mumbai, Jul 6: Navi Mumbai will get a new hawking policy soon, said Ganesh Naik, guardian minister.
