Mumbai: Ganesh pandals to get single window

Mumbai, Jul 7: The Ganeshotsava Smanvay Samiti and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) together have decided that the Ganesh pandals will have only a single window permission from this year for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations.

The decision was taken after the civic body discussed the matter.

“An engineer-level officer will be appointed in each ward to handle all issues pertaining to Ganesh pandals — permissions or advertisements — so as to make it convenient for the mandal," Kishor Kshirsagar said municipal commissioner.

The body also discussed problem related to the roads dug up for infrastructure project, potholes during the meeting.  The civic body restated that work on such roads will be finished keeping in mind the order of urgency.

The planning board has been directed by the state board to look into the repair of roads and re-establish roads where the projects are supposed to come up before Sep.

According to Narendra Dahibavkar, a co ordinator with the Ganeshotsava Smanvay Samiti also highlighted the fact that Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority did not listen to them.

“Areas in MbPT such as Wadala, Sewree, Bhaucha Dhakka are very dirty and are not prepared for the festival. We have written to the municipal commissioner asking him to direct them to clean up before the festival," said Dahibavkar.

The number of mandals are estimated to increase from 11, 920 TO 12, 400 this year. Officials say that there will no deposits on mandals this year.

Maha govt to reduce security cover to VIPs
