Bombay HC: Mrs Mirchi returns to India to claim her flats

Mumbai, Jul 7: Heena Kausar, a small time Bollywood actress and the wife of Iqbal Mirchi, world's top drug baron, have approached the Bombay High Court to stake her claim to two flats located in a prime area of the city.

Kausar, alongwith her husband fled India just before the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. Kausar, who is back to India once again have requested the court to revoke the detention order against her husband so that the seal on the two flats she owns in Juhu can be lifted. The flats are located in Milton Apartments on Juhu Tara Road.

On Wednesday, Jul 6 a division bench of Justice B H Marlapalle and Justice U D Salvi issued notices to the state and the Union government and asked them to file their affidavits within three weeks' time.

Iqbal Mirchi, originally named as Iqbal Memon had the narcotics trade in the 1980s and he fled to Dubai just before the Mumbai serial blasts. In 1994, the Indian Government declared him a "proclaimed offender".

According to Advocate Aisha Ansari, counsel for Heena, she flew to India from London to lay her hands on the detention order. The detention order was issued by the Union government under the antinarcotics law after five gunny bags full of mandrax tablets were seized from a jeep outside Jewel of India restaurant in 1993.

"The flats are owned by Heena and are in no way concerned to the allegations against her husband," said Ansari.
