Shut Up, says SC to panel member checking Padmanabha trove

Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala
New Delhi, Jul 6: After a panel member, who has been appointed to take stock of the treasure found in Kerala's Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple dared to open his mouth in public, faced the wrath of the Supreme Court.

The apex court on Wednesday, Jul 6 criticised Justice CS Rajan's statement about the treasure findings in the richest temple of the country in press.

Speaking to a private Malayalam television channel, the SC observer Justice Rajan had said on Tuesday that the treasure was mesmerizing and that he had not seen such large quantities of gold ever in his life. He also stated that the details of the treasures have been recorded, the details of which will be presented to the Supreme Court in an interim report.

He had also added that the values quoted by the media were mere speculations and the exact figures were yet to be ascertained. He also stated that the assets found cannot be classified as 'treasure' and will not fall under the state government's regulation on such assets.

Rajan's statement enraged the Travancore royal family who may soon move the Supreme Court demanding to avert disclosing of the assets in public.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple's secret chambers, which were enclosed for over 150 years, were opened after the apex court issued order. The breath-holding findings of assets estimated to have already crossed almost Rs 1 lakh crore booty. The last cell - chamber B is yet to be opened.

The court also asked the authorities to make video on the unearthing process of treasure hunting and the gold, jewellery found in the temple's secret cells.
