Mumbai, Jul 6: Sharad Pawar, ICC president will not contest in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections, said reports.
Pawar will not be able to contest because he is not a resident of Mumbai. According to the rule books of MCA, only a resident of the city can stand for the elections. The ICC President in 2009 changed his permanent residence address to Baramati after he decided to stand in the Madha Lok Sabha constituency elections.
"I am not going to contest the MCA election because there is some technical problem. In the last Lok Sabha elections, my voter's ID was from Baramati, even though, I have been staying in Mumbai. According to the bylaws of the MCA, you can't contest as president if your voter's ID is not from Mumbai. That is a rule and I don't want to change it," said Pawar.
“Pawar won"t be contesting because of a technical reason. The members wanted him to continue with the MCA, but a nomination rule has ensured that he will not be allowed to," said Ratnakar Shetty MCA treasurer.
According to reports, even Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Minister of Rural Development and the ex-Chief Minister of Maharashtra will undergo the same fate, as he changed his permanent address to Latur after he decided to contest in the state assembly election.
It is reported that Ravi Sawant, Pawar's close aide has been nominated by Pawar for the post of president, while Shetty, BCCI chief administrative officer will fight for the post of vice president.
