Drunk Army officer shot Dilshan in cold blood? Probe on

Indian Army
Chennai, Jul 6: The case of 13-year-old Dilshan shot in cold blood sent shock waves across the country. His only crime was that he trespassed into army premises. With the blame game on who was actually responsible for the gruesome act, the state government and the Army are at loggerheads. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered a CB-CID probe into the matter and called the killing “unacceptable".

But latest reports have emerged that the boy was shot by an inebriated senior Army officer for entering the high security zone at the Old Fort Glacis Officers" Enclave, Island Grounds. Sources within the police revealed, “The Army officer who opened fire at Dilshan locked himself in a toilet immediately after the incident and was later cajoled to come out by his colleagues who feared that he was going to commit suicide. The officer was later spirited away in a private car to Bengaluru."

Meanwhile, there were media reports that suggested a Lt Colonel and two other army personnel were questioned in connection with the Dilshan killing. With investigations on, a top official stated, "We are verifying some of the leads. But there is no breakthrough yet."

The Additional DGP, R Sekar at the CB-CID refused to reveal more on the probe. He, however added that the Army personnel in Chennai were fully co-operating with the investigations. A statement from the Army said that all army personnel in the vicinity of the spot of Sunday's incident and the civilian security guard on duty in the compound will be made available for questioning, both by the military police and CB-CID police.
