Mumbai: Vada pav becomes burger in Shiv Sena-Oppn politics

Shiv Sena
Mumbai, Jul 1: The civic body election is ringing its bell on the door and Maharashtra local politics is watching a different kind of war between Shiv Sena and its opposition parties just ahead of the poll. The competition has become more tougher when it comes on the name of Indian burger - vara pav.

Shiv Sena earlier had launched Shiv Vada brand in Mumbai. Now, staging a tough competition for the Sena brand, Congress minister Narayan Rane's son, Nitesh Rane has launched Chhatrapati Vada Pav.

Without hiding their main intension, Rane claimed, "We will set up our stalls wherever there are Shiv Vada Pav stalls. If BMC removes our stalls, they will have to remove those stalls as well."

Vada Pav, which enjoys a huge popularity among the Mumbaikars, is made of mashed potatoes, dipped in gram-flour batter and fried. It is served in a bun with a red chilli-garlic powder, green chutney paste and a helping of sweet tamarind chutney.

To catch the aam-admi's attention, Shiv Sena's supremo Bal Thackeray had encouraged Marathi people to set up vada pav stalls and later in 2008 the party came out with Shiv Vada brand.

Rane's new Chhatrapati Vada Pav stall has been set up in Powai where recently Uddhv Thackeray has inaugurated Shiv Vada stall.
