Fort Calhoun, Jun 29: The Missouri River floodwater's swooshed at nuclear power plant at Omaha, Nebraska on Jun 28 is safe, said a US nuclear regulator.
"The risk is really very low at this point that anything could go wrong," said Gregory Jaczko, chairman , Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Omaha after he visited the area.
"It's certainly clear that this is not an issue that's going to go away anytime soon," said Jaczko.
The Omaha Public Power District plant was not operative for at least 11 weeks as it was scheduled refuelling breakdown. It was not sure whether the plant would remain idle, said officials.
At least a third of the population in Minot were moved out of the area because of the flooding from the Souris which is close to the city.
Residents were also requested to limit the usage of water, reported CNN. Though workers were able to reach the location where water line broke-out, it was not confirmed when the water could be restored to its normal flow.
The Souris reached a high point at the weekend at about 13 feet after the floods.
The floods also affected the residents of Burlington, North Dakota and they had to face problems after water from Garrison Reservoir was released into the Missouri River said CNN. According to reports nearly 40, 000 people have been removed from the area.
