New Delhi, Jun 28: The Madhya Pradesh government, following a newspaper report, has been directed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to carry out a probe into the matter of sex change operation of girls being changed into boys at Indore every year without their consent at a younger age.

The NCPCR acting on the report, which stated that clinics and hospitals in Indore were operating baby girls for a sex change operation has provided the state government with a list of hospitals and doctors who practice genitoplasty and asked the government to submit a report within 15 days.

“This shocking unprecedented trend, catering to the fetish for a son, is unfolding at Indore"s well-known clinics and hospitals on children who are 5 years old. This process is known as genitoplasty, each case costing about Rs1.5 lakh," said NCPCR.

“The process involves children being pumped with hormonal treatment as part of the sex change procedure that may be irreversible."

“The matter amounts to child rights violations in terms of perpetuation of the age old preferences for boys and biases against girl child, discrimination against the female child, the right to health, right to life and dignity and the whole process being highly unethical," it said.

Meanwhile, the CMO of Indore denied the reports of child sex change operation being carried out in the state.
