Maoists step forward in support of Posco movement

Kolkata, Jun 28: The Maoists on Tuesday, Jun 28 (today) said that the Centre and the Orissa government breached the norms set by the Environmental Ministry for the Posco project and sympathised with those who stirred a agitation against it.

"Fact finding by the Saxena committee and the Meena Gupta committee has proved the existence of forest rights. But the FRA (Forest Rights Act) is not implemented by the state government in the area," said central committee on behalf of Abhay, Maoists national spokesperson who said this in a press release.

"CPI (Maoist) hails the people of Orissa who are determined to stop the much-touted 52,000 crore 'biggest foreign direct investment' in India and declares its full support and solidarity for them," it said.

The Maoists also asked the government to 'stop intimidating the people', stop the land acquisition, pull out parliamentary personnel's and police from the site in Jagatsingpur district, Orrisa.

"The overwhelming majority of this country's population is rejecting the profit-centric, pro-imperialist development model and embracing the people-centric, pro-people development model," added the release.

Meanwhile the work at the site came to a standstill for the third day today as people came out and protested at the Balisahi Junction.

Raipur, Jun 10: In the second brazen attack in as many days, Naxals blew up an anti-landmine vehicle, killing 10 security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.The anti-landmine vehicle of the security forces was approaching a bridge near Gatan village when the Naxals triggered a powerful blast and opened indiscriminate fire on them, police said.Seven Special Police Officers (SPO) and three police jawans were killed when their vehicle was tossed in the air by the powerful blast, they said. Orissa police arrest three Maoists

Baripada, May 22: Mayurbhanj police have arrested three Maoists, the main suspects of May 8 murder of forester Ravindra Nath Patra in Orissa. The Maoist gunmen had attacked the Sargada forest beat and shot dead the forester under Rairangpur range. Police said the arrested Maoists were also allegedly involved in a landmine blast at Sargada- Chadheipahada Road on May nine. They have been identified as Shastri Nayak of Lado village, Matka Majhi alias.....
