Bus collides with a van near Tumkur, 16 killed

Bangalore, Jun 28: Sixteen people were killed on the spot and 12 injured when a Tempo Trax in which they were travelling collided with a KSRTC bus near Siddartha Medical College on the Honnavar-Bangalore National Highway on Monday, Jun 27.

The victims who were killed in the accident were mostly labourers and vegetable vendors, hailing from places in and around Gubbi and were on their way to Tumkur.

The bus was on its way to Shimoga from Tumkur. The driver of the Tempo Trax was driving the vehicle on the wrong side of the road and was talking on his mobile phone when the incident occurred.

The commercial transport vehicle was completely damaged due to the impact of the collision.

The deceased included Tempo Trax driver Sudhir (32) of Heggare, conductor Sugganahalli Shivanna (45) from Sugganahalli in Magadi taluk, Somashekhar (23), a vegetable vendor from Kadehalli in Turuvekere taluk, Jayalakshmamma (35) of Subhash Nagar in Gubbi, Lakshmamma (30) from Somlapura, Hanumantha Raju (28), a vegetable vendor from Tyagatur, Nagaraj (24) from Katigenahalli, Narasimhamurthy (30), Vijaykumar (28), a construction worker from Bellavi in Tumkur taluk, Ratnamma (40) of Ankasandra, Krishnamurthy (30) of Nagasandra, Siddaramaiah (30) of Shettikere in Chikkanaya-kanahalli taluk, Mohiddin (26) of Lingammanahalli, Shivagangamma (40) from Varadenahalli and Pramod (19) of Nandihalli.

A compensation of Rs 50,000 each will be provided by the KSRTC to the next of kin of the deceased.

Man burnt alive in rescue effort

Varanasi, Jun 25: A man was today (Jun 25) burnt alive in a rescue effort after a truck carrying gas-cylinders rammed into another truck loaded with chemicals, police said here. A truck laden with gas-cylinders crashed into a truck stationed outside a factory on GT road Mehdigunj, SHO Mirzamurad, Dharamveer Yadav said. A 25-year-old helper, Saroj, was stuck in the truck filled with cylinders. When people tried to rescue him using a gas-cutter, the vehicles caught fire and he was burnt alive, police said......

Nitin Gadkari, family escape death in helicopter crash

Dehradun, Jun 20: A helicopter which carried BJP President Nitin Gadkari, crashed after dropping Gadkari and his family at the Jolly Grant airport, Dehradun on Jun 19.The engineer and the pilot of the chopper suffered injuries and were hospitalised. After dropping Gadkari and his family and on its way to Sahasradhara helipad, the chopper crashed in Ladpur jungles, a highly sensitive area where Defence Research Development Organisation's Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE) is situated. West Bengal: Jnaneshwari Exp hits buffer, 5 injured

Kolkata, May 14: At least five persons were injured when 2101 Down Jnaneswari Express hit the buffer of a platform, while entering Howrah station today. Railway officials said the train hit the buffer of platform number 20 at about 0530 hours adding that the passengers were in the train.
