MP: All eyes on outcome of Jabera election

Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal, Jun 26: The result of the byelection held yesterday in the Jabera assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh could have a significant impact on the politics in the state.

The election campaign witnessed a fierce contest between the ruling BJP's candidate, Dashrath Lodhi, and the Congress's Tanya Solomon.

In the 2008 assembly elections, Dashrath had lost to Ratnesh Solomon, whose death led to this byelection. Tanya is Ratnesh's daughter, and Congress is hoping to capitalize on the sympathy wave.

This year, Congress has lost byelections for the Kukshi assembly constituency in Dhar district and the Sonkutch constituency in Dewas district.

These losses are significant as the party had been winning from these constituencies for a long time, but BJP succeeded in snatching them away this time.

After Kukshi and Sonkutch polls, state Congress president Suresh Pachouri was replaced by union minister Kantilal Bhuria, and Ajay Singh has taken over as the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly.
