14 child labourers rescued in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jun 26: As many as 14 children were today rescued from a bus stand here while they were being taken to work as labourers in Himachal Pradesh and two persons arrested in this connection, police said.

The children, between the age group of seven to 14 years were picked up by accused Hamka Maze and Durjan from the Gaya district of Bihar by paying Rs 500 for each child, police said.

A case had been registered against the two accused and further investigations were on in this regard, they added.

Ahmedabad, Jun 14: 2011 is India's third consecutive year for being blacklisted by the US government for engaging child labour in its garment export industry. India was named in the Executive Order List though the exporters left no stone unturned to convince the US authorities. Six child labourers rescued in Orissa

Kendrapada, Aug 19: Six child labourers rescued by Cuttack railway police from two middle men were handed over to Mahakalpada police on Friday last. Police today said acting on a tip off, the railway police arrested two middlemen and rescued the six children from them while they were about to board a Tamil Nadu-bound train from the Cuttack station. Beijing, July 31: A Chinese stationery firm accused of using child labour has been stripped of its licence to make souvenirs for the 2008 Olympics, the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) said today. A report released in June by London-based labour rights group Playfair Alliance said the Le Kit company had employed ''more than 20'' children younger than 16. BOCOG ''attached great importance to the issue'', said a statement posted on the Games' official Web site today, and their investigation.....
