14 child labourers rescued in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jun 26: As many as 14 children were today rescued from a bus stand here while they were being taken to work as labourers in Himachal Pradesh and two persons arrested in this connection, police said.

The children, between the age group of seven to 14 years were picked up by accused Hamka Maze and Durjan from the Gaya district of Bihar by paying Rs 500 for each child, police said.

A case had been registered against the two accused and further investigations were on in this regard, they added.

SC slams Center on child labour in beedi-rolling

Campaign against child labour begins in Punjab

Moga, Nov 19: The Punjab government has launched an awareness campaign in the state against child labour, Principal Secretary, labour, S S Channy stated here today. Talking to newspersons here, he said that the campaign would involve making the public aware of the central government notification banning employment of children in dhabas, road side eateries, retaurants, tea stalls, hotels, motels, tea shops and also as domestic servants.
