SIMI activist arrested at Kochi

Kochi,Jun 25: An absconding SIMI accused, wanted by the Madhya Pradesh anti-terrorist squad, was today arrested from the airport here soon after arrival from Dubai,police said.

The 40-year-old accused, Syed Salauddeen Salar (ed correct), former All India President of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India, has a case registered against him in Mahakkal police station in Madhya Pradesh, police said.

Salauddeen, who had arrived here by the 0920 am Dubai-Kochi flight, was picked up by the Madhya Pradesh anti-terrorist squad soon after arrival.

He was accompanied by a woman, said to be his distant relative and a child. She is being questioned, police said. The SIMI leader is an accused in various cases in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, sources said.

Salauddeen, who was brought to court with his face covered, was produced before the Aluva Judicial First Class magistrate, P J Joseph this afternoon and will be taken to Indore on a three-day transit warrant. He will be produced before the Ujjain JFCM on Monday.

Davangere, Karnataka, Jan 29: The Andhra Pradesh police who interrogated SIMI activist Riyazuddin, allegedly trained by Pak ultras on disruptive activities, reportedly gathered some vital information leading to the Hyderabad Mecca Masjid blasts.
