Cong won, BJP lost? Sonia to give cabinet berth to Munde?

Gopinath Munde
New Delhi, Jun 22: The high drama over BJP's deputy leader in Lok Sabha, Gopianath Munde, who established the root of the party in Maharashtra along with his brother-in-law Pramod Mahajan, reached to its peak. Speculations fueled up when Munde, on Jun 21, reached the national capital and is expected to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan soon.

After holding several meetings with senior BJP leaders, Munde hinted that he may table his resignation and join BJP's arch-rival party - Congress. Sources also claimed that Munde may demand a union cabinet berth and ministerial positions for his supporters in the state cabinet from Congress.

Media reports have already stated that Sonia Gandhi's party may consider a cabinet berth to Munde, though former Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh had earlier stated, "Until Mr Munde makes a decision and resolves the issues at hand, it is unfit for us to comment."

Meanwhile, BJP is expected to call a final meeting to solve the party's internal war. Munde will meet party high command led by Sushma Swaraj in the capital on Wednesday, Jun 22.

The crack in BJP was first noticed when Munde raised his voice against party president Nitin Gadkari's decision to appoint Vikas Mathkari as Pune president after snubbing Munde's loyalist Yogesh Gogawale.

The BJP deputy leader in the House snubbed a core party meeting in Mumbai on Jun 21 and reached New Delhi. The decision by Munde clearly shows the BJP leader's inclination to join Congress.
