Haryana defeats Karnataka to lift Hockey title

Bhopal, Jun 20: Haryana on Sunday, June 19 defeated Karnataka 2-1 to lift the Hockey India's first National Men's Championship here. Haryana's drag flicker Sandeep Singh converted a penalty corner into a goal at the 13th minute of the action-packed match.

In the first half both teams got two penalty corners each but Haryana managed to capitalise on one of them. At the breather, Haryana led 1-0.

After the match resumed, Karnataka got a penalty corner and its drag flicker V R Raghunath converted it into a goal, to equal the score in the 40th minute.

However, Haryana's Mandeep Antil netted the ball at the 52nd minute to score the last goal of the match.

After down by one goal, Karnataka made some marvellous moves but fumbled to give them final touch.

Karnataka's Goal Keeper Bharat Chettri made some brilliant saves. Karnataka's Raghunath scored the highest 12 goals while Haryana's Sandeep Singh netted the ball eleven times in the tournament.

In the other clash for the third position, Punjab defeated Jharkhand 4-1.

Brother-sister duo to lead Jharkhand hockey teams

Ranchi, Feb 10: Brother and sister duo of Bimal Lakra and Asunta Lakra will lead the Jharkhand men's and women''s hockey team for the National Games beginning on February 12.

Lakra's bother Birendra also finds a place in the Men's team, and all the siblings have represented India in Asian and Commonwealth Games.

Orissa's Prabodh Tirkey, an international, has switched over to Jharkhand team after he recently got married to a Ranchi girl.

Asian Games hockey: Malaysia beats India 4-3

Guangzhou, Nov 23: Indian hockey team lost to Malaysia in the semi finals of men's hockey event in Asian Games 2010 on Tuesday, Nov 23.Malaysia defeated India 4-3 through a golden goal after both sides were tied 3-3 at the end of regulation time. Malaysia will meet Pakistan in the finals.Malaysian striker Amin Rahim scored a penalty corner goal in the 75th-minute and the golden goal to cruise the country for the title match."They had good penalty.....

Ajit Pal feels foreign coach can lift Indian hockey

Patiala, Aug 3: India's legendary centre-half in hockey, Ajit Pal Singh has advocated that Indian hockey which was in a pathetic state needed a top foreign coach. "We have tried all options without success, so what is the harm if we have a foreign coach for the good of Indian hockey," he said in a chat with UNI.....
