Oil mafia suspected in the MiD DAY Journo murder

Mumbai, Jun 13: Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister, Maharashtra on Monday, Jun 13 hinted at the connection of oil mafia in the murder of Jyotirmoy Dey, journalist, MiD DAY.

After meeting a panel of journalists from Mumbai, Chavan said that Dey was on the point of exposing the oil mafia. He rejected the demand laid before him for the matter to be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation and said that the state police should also be given a opportunity to solve the case.

The demand asking for the resignation of Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Home Minister of Maharashtra was also rejected by Chavan.

The panel also told Prithviraj Chavan that the case should be solved in two weeks time or a the state government would have to face bigger turmoil.

Chavan said that action would taken in the proceedings of the case and further added that in the next monsoon session of the state Assembly a bill would be tabled to protect journalists.

A hunger strike has been planned by journalists at Azad Maidan, Mumbai on Jun 15 from 9 am to protest and bring the state government under pressure and take action against the cases of rising number of attacks on media.

According to Mumbai Police sources, they have found some clues in the journalists murder. Crime Branch teams have also been sent outside Mumbai to further investigate into the matter.

Many people in Mumbai along with local criminals and underworld sources are being interrogated in the case, said sources. Sources also reveal that a pistol could also have been possibly used to murder Dey.

Manipur: Assault on journalists condemned

Imphal, Dec 12: The media organisations of Manipur have condemned the assault on two senior journalists of a local vernacular daily, Matamgi Yakairol, on December 10 midnight by unknown miscreants.
