Underworld mafia professionals kill Mid Day journo J Dey?

Mumbai, Jun 12: Just after a day when entire media world witnessed the dire consequences of investigative crime reporting, Mumbai police hinted that some professionals killed Mid Day journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.

"It (the killing) is a job done professionally... we are doing the investigation on the lines that it is done by an organised syndicate. The case has been given to the Crime Branch from the start because it is a matter of veteran journalist and I think this incident is the first of its kind. We are taking this case seriously," Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik said while briefing the press about the suspects of the murder.

Four unidentified assailants attacked the investigative journalist at Powai in Mumbai on Saturday (Jun 11) evening. Mr Dey sustained five bullet injuries and succumbed to his injuries in Hiranandani hospital soon after his admission.

Dey, who recently published a book on the underworld - Zero Dial and Khallas, used to cover all underworld reports. Dey also wrote reports on Mumbai's oil mafia, sources said.

Dey's last funeral will be conducted in his Mumbai residence on Sunday. However, the journalist's death once again raises questions on safety of people in Mumbai. Is Mumbai once again going to become a hub of underworld mafias?
