Baba Ramdev stable after forcible move to hospital

Baba Ramdev in hospital
New Delhi, Jun 11: With Baba Ramdev and his controversial fast that is slowly bordering on life-threatening, his dramatic move by force to a hospital in Dehradun has sparked off a war of words between the Congress and the Opposition BJP. The government authorities decided on the move after Ramdev's health was deteriorating to an alarming situation.

On his eight day of fast, Baba Ramdev still remained adamant and refused to call off his fast in spite of being administered glucose in hospital. On being forcibly moved to hospital, the District Magistrate of Haridwar, M Meenakshi Sundaram was quoted as saying, ""We have had to take this step as baba's vital parameters were falling. We have given him glucose." His condition is believed to be stable with doctors closely monitoring him.

On an initiative by the Uttarakhand government, Ramdev was moved out to the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences. With Ramdev refusing to budge in spite of requests from various quarters, remained adamant and wanted the corrupt behind bars.

Controversy had erupted regarding his multi-crore assets on which he had made a public announcement along with his aide Acharya Balkrishna. With various groups and civil society members condemning the midnight crackdown on Baba and his supporters, they were not in complete agreement with Baba's modus operandi to curb corruption.

With the BJP offering unsolicited approach to the Baba's cause, the Opposition is determined to make an issue out of it and slam the Congress for its apparent insensitiveness to a just cause. Meanwhile, a 2000 people of Ramdev's supporters blocked the Delhi-Rishikesh National Highway for a few hours in spite of requests from the police and local officials.

According to a medical update on Ramdev's health late on Friday night revealed that he was administered intravenous fluid, glucose and normal saline and that his condition was stable. Dr. SL Jethani, the medical superintendent of the hospital said, "He is talking and there is no problem. His health is improving."
