Punjab intensifies campaign against child labour

Chandigarh, Jun 10: The Punjab Government today (June 10) intensified its campaign against child labour in the state, Labour Minister Arunesh Shakir said.

Instructions have been issued to all district labour officers to conduct surprise raids on brick kilns, dhabas and shops to check the menace and free child labourers from their clutches, he said here.

Shakir said the state government was committed to ensure that there was no exploitation of children and under this campaign they would motivate parents of such children to put their children in schools so that they could study and enjoy their childhood.

The Labour Minister said he has sought information from every district regarding the raids conducted to check child labour.

He said the labour department would soon hold seminars, exhibitions and educative campaigns to educate the public regarding the menace of child labour.

Seeking active public support to make the campaign successful, Shakir said the state government was observing child labour elimination week from June 12 to 18.
