Haryana to constitute task force to promote gender equity

Chandigarh, Jun 10: Alarmed at the adverse child sex ratio in the state, the Haryana Government has decided to set up a task force in each district to promote gender equity.

The task force, to be headed by the deputy commissioner of the respective districts, will ensure strict implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994, an official spokesman said here today.

Besides, it will chalk out strategies for involving public in curbing the malpractice of female foeticide, he said.

The task force would meet at least once in a month and review the implementation of the PC and PNDT Act and progress of prosecutions launched against errant diagnostic centres or doctors, the spokesman said.

The zila parishad chairman would be its co-chairperson and SP, ADC, district-level programme officer of Women and Child Development Department, SDM, two college principals, zila parishad representative and two representatives of civil society would be the members. The civil surgeon of the district would be its member secretary.

JK minister calls for effective measures to curb foeticide

Jammu, April 23: Asking enforcement agencies to take stern action against ultrasound clinics involved in conducting sex determination tests, the Jammu and Kashmir government today said there is an urgent need to improve the sex ratio and prevent female foeticide.

"There is an urgent need to improve the male and female sex ratio in the state and an effective mechanism is required to curb the menace of female foeticide," Minister for Health and Family Welfare Sham Lal Sharma said while speaking.....

Gujarat puts brakes on declining child sex ratio

Ahmedabad, April 18: The 2011 census reveals that Gujarat has managed to halt the speedy decline in child sex ratio in the previous decade, but it still has a long way to go as the current ratio is below the national average. Also, the overall sex ratio has declined a bit.

In the 90s, the child sex ratio (age group of zero to six years) had slipped to 883 girls for every 1,000 boys from 928 girls for every 1,000 boys in.....

Taiwan Mobile sees Q1 sales beating forecasts
