Punjab approves Service act, offices wait for provision

Chandigarh, June 8: Though the Punjab cabinet have approved the Right to Services Act, yet, the people in the state are looking forward to the ministry of home affairs for notifying the Act.

The people of Punjab would soon enjoy the legally-supported benefits of claiming their 67 civil and police service rights, that is available in the act.

Talking about the importance of Right to Service Act in the city, theatre personality Neelam Maan Singh said, ''Punjab government's move to uplift the lives of the deprived people of the state is appreciated. This must be extended to UT and other states as well.''

A Senior lawyer of Punjab and Haryana high court H C Arora said that the central government have already started thinking about the Act notification for all the states and union territories. It would provide the commoners "a great opportunity to get their public-dealing works done in an expeditious way. They would not have to make rounds of public offices.''

Senior sociology professor of Panjab University Sherry Sabharwal said that the the act provisions must be implemented with a strong administrative hand.

Sheila, Sikh delegation meets Sonia
