Itanagar, Jun 6: Protesting the midnight police crackdown on Yoga guru Ramdev and his supporters at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Saturday, the Arunachal unit of BJP today (June 6) launched Raj Bhawan Chalo programme as part of the nationwide 24-hour Satyagrah launched by the party.
The party submitted a memorandum to Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh immediately after the protest march, General Secretary and party spokesman Tai Tagak said.
"We have condemned the government's brutality on people's peaceful democratic movement against corruption and black money," Tagak said.
"The brutal attack involving lathi-charge and firing of teargas by police on people in their sleep was more of a Ravanleela at Ramleela ground", he said.
"This extremity and brutality reminds the nation of the days of emergency, which too coincidently was in the month of June in 1975", he said.
"It is also a matter to be seriously viewed that the government is curtailing the basic democratic rights of freedom of expression in the constitution," Tagak added.
The midnight police crackdown on Ramdev and his supporters in New Delhi where the Yoga Guru was on an indefinite fast over the issue of black money drew strong condemnation from the Arunachal Pradesh branch of Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman Trust, which decided to observe June 5 and 6 as black day in protest against the police atrocities.
