Drama in Karnataka assembly; Yeddyurappa wins trust vote

BS Yeddyurappa
Bangalore, Jun 2: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa once again proved his power in the state. Yeddyurappa succeeded to save his reign in the state by winning trust vote.

On the very first day of the state assembly on Thursday, Jun 2, the Karnataka CM won vote of confidence by voice vote.

After proving his majority in Jun 2008 after a close shave by getting the support of six independents, he had to face the acid test yet again in Oct 2010. The floor test on Oct 11, 2010 drew flak from Governor HR Bharadwaj after the role of the independent rebel MLAs was questioned.

After Yeddyurappa's win, the opposition parties - Congress and JDS staged a walk out from the assembly.

The opposition parties in the state demanded adjournment motion which was rejected by the speaker. The speaker called for the confidence motion which marked the victory for the BJP led by Yeddyurappa.Citing Yeddyurappa's victory, Congress Leader DK Shivakumar chided, "The speaker is acting as an agent of BJP. We wanted to discuss what the speaker did during last trust vote and he's not allowing a discussion. How can democracy function like this?"
