Reservation in Govt job: Tribal protest turns violent in Goa

Panaji, May 26: The tribal protest demanding reservation in government jobs and the protection of their land turns violent in Goa on Thursday, May 26.

A number of vehicles were set on fire and two senior police officers, one of them an SP were injured in the stone pelting and violence that erupted around Bali.

Earlier, the Goa state government, citing the tribal protest, shut down an illegal open cast iron ore mine. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said, "All the heavy machinery at the mine will be removed. The government has probed the complaints against the mine and has found out that it was illegal."

One of the protesters claimed, "For months we have been shouting and protesting that ore was being illegally extracted. Even Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who is also the mines minister, did not stop the illegal mining."

Government must clarify on terror threat in Goa

New Delhi, Dec 15: The Government was today asked to clarify the situation regarding Israeli Government's advisory to its citizens not to visit Goa in view of the ''concrete threat of Al Qaeda attack'' on tourists there during Christmas season.
