Maternity ward patients given phenyl by hospital attendant

Amravati (Mah), May 12: In a shocking incident, seven women patients in a maternity ward of the district hospital were administered phenyl instead of a dose of regular medicine by an attendant here.

According to hospital sources, the women, admitted in Ward number six of the hospital were given the poisonous liquid last evening, following which they began vomitting and complained of stomach ache.

All them had recently delivered children and were to be discharged soon, they said.

The matter came to light after one patient identified as Vaishali Wasule (28) while consuming the smelly thing told the hospital staff about the incident.

Soon after, her relatives informed the Gadge Nagar police station and also the Commissioner of Police here about it. Police have collected samples and further investigations are on, sources said.

All the women in the ward are stable and out of danger now, they added.

Bird flu spreads to new areas in Assam

Kamrup (Assam), Dec 6: With a fresh outbreak of bird flu in poultry being detected in Assam, authorities are prepared to start the culling of thousands of chickens.Reports say the virus has spread to the districts of Barpeta and Nalbari from Hajo in Kamrup District, where it was first reported. Samples were sent to laboratories in Bhopal and have tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza.The State Government has ordered culling operations and culling officers have already started going.....
