Mumbai, May 8: Residents of south Mumbai and western suburbs will face a major water cut for four days starting from Monday, May 9 as the local civic body has undertaken repair work on the Marol-Ruparel underground water tunnel.
There will be no water supply in south Mumbai and western suburbs from Monday to Thursday as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be replacing the Tansa (east), Tansa (west), water main pipeline with a tunnel from Marol to Ruparel (Mahim), the civic body said today.
"The work of fixing valve on Vaitarna main line as part of Maroshi-Vakola-Mahim-Ruparel tunnel project is to be executed from May 9-12," BMC's water department said.
There will be 100 per cent water cut on Monday and Wednesday in south Mumbai areas like Cuff Parade, Colaba, Nariman Point, Backbay Reclamation, Fort, Churchgate, Marine Lines and Marine Drive, Malabar Hill, Peddar Road, Carmicheal Road, Bhulabhai Desai Road and Forjett Street.
On Tuesday and Thursday there will be water cuts in areas like Kalbadevi, C P Tank, Girgaum, Thakurdwar, Mumbai Central, Khetwadi, Tardeo and Babulnath.
Areas in G ''North'' like Senapati Bapat Marg, Sayani Road, Prabhadevi, Janata Colony, Elphiston Road, B D D chawl, and areas in G ''South'' ward like Kohinoor institute to Elphiston station, Bhavani Shankar Road Kabutar Khana to Zakhadevi Chowk, parts of Lower Parel, Ghokhale road and other areas will face 25 per cent cut from Monday to Thursday, the department said.
The Maroshi-Matunga tunnel is one of three tunnels the BMC is constructing across the city to augment water supply.
The 12-km long underground tunnel, being built at a cost of Rs 350 crore, is proposed to be completed by Aug 2012.
