2G: Singhvi slips him out of JPC panel

New Delhi, Mar 1: Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi slipped him out of JPC, into 2G spectrum scam, tactfully. Singhvi taking the plea that he had appeared for cellular operators in the court as a senior advocate he dejected the JPC.

"I had appeared as a senior advocate in the court for cellular operators and had attacked the telecom policies from 2002 to 2004 when Pramod Mahajan, Arun Shourie and Ram Vilas Paswan were telecom ministers (in the NDA government). Hence I requested the Rajya Sabha Chairman for recusal and the request has been accepted," Singhvi, who is also party spokesperson said on Tuesday, Mar 1.

His name figures among the list of 10 members from Rajya Sabha, who are to be included in the 30-member JPC in which 20 members will be from Lok Sabha.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be moving a motion for the appointment of a JPC in the Upper House today.

Other members whose name are proposed are PJ Kurien and Praveen Rashtrapal from Congress, Sitram Yechury from CPI-M, Tiruchi Shiva from DMK, SS Ahluwalia and Ravi Shankar Prasad from BJP, YP Trivedi from NCP, Satish Chandra Mishra from BSP and Ramchandra Prasad Singh from Janta Dal United.
