Yeddyurappa jittery over prosecution threats

BS Yeddyurappa
Bangalore, Jan 20: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa is literally having the jitters as the Governor-Chief Minister spat seem to enter the next level. With Governor HR Bhardwaj hell-bent on nailing the CM on his alleged involvement in the land scams, Yeddyurappa is definitely going through sleepless nights.

Yeddyurappa has written to the Governor saying, "It would be nothing short of a farce and a colourable exercise on the part of Your Excellency to even consider any sanction for prosecution." He also stated that such a move would demean the independent judicial commission appointed to inquire into the controversial land dealings from 1995-2010. The commission has been appointed by the state government.

The Governor however is sticking to his no-holds barred approach and wants to get to the root of the land scams. An emergency meeting was held and passed a resolution that permission for the prosecution will not be granted. The Governor on the other hand is sharpening its claws and is taking inputs from a lawyers' forum to nail Yeddyurappa and Home Minister R Ashok in the land scams.

"It is under consideration. There are so many angles. It is a very ticklish issue", Governor Bhardwaj said. Law Minister Suresh Kumar speaking on the resolution passed by Yeddyurappa mentioned, "neither any investigating agency nor any Commission of Inquiry has indicted the Chief Minister or the Home Minister. .. Hence your intended exercise of the power to process the request for sanction is wholly without jurisdiction"

There was high drama over a period of time staged by Opposition Parties and others exposing the deeds of the corrupt Karnataka government. It was alleged that Yeddyurappa granted prime property to his family members at throwaway prices, thereby misusing his office of power.
